New trial ordered in case of slain Boston detective

Boston’s highest court ruled that a Dorchester man charged over the murder of Boston Detective John J. Mulligan was unfairly tried. This affirms a lower court judge’s ruling that corrupt officers were involved in the original case.

According to court documents, Sean K. Ellis is entitled to a new trial in relation to the murder of Mulligan, a detective who was shot in Roslindale while on a private detail.
