News for the upcoming third season of Westworld has been in the covers for quite some time now, and fans don’t know what to expect, up till its announced production anyway. The series began production last month and fans were both excited and a little antsy on whether it could reach the small screens just before the year ends. That is now debunked as HBO programming chief Casey Bloys, and WarnerMedia Entertainment chairman Robert ‘Bob’ Greenblatt, confirmed the beloved TV series will be released in 2020.
In light of its recent news, there are rumors flying around, claiming the season would have two less episodes, and each episode will last approximately an hour. While it is unfortunate that fans lost two ‘potentially good’ episodes, at least fans can rest easy knowing that the length of each episode weren’t shortened as well.
The release date didn’t come as a surprise at all, at least for the avid fans across the globe. There was already a speculation regarding its release date, and it was based on the gap between the first two seasons. If you haven’t noticed, it took about two years for the 2nd season to arrive, and it fits quite well that the 3rd season would come with a two-year gap.
To answer questions about its production length and delay, Greenbatt had this to say,
“Networks often go through these periods when signature shows go away, and people speculate on what the future is. And there’s always something that comes along that you didn’t expect,”
He also added on a separate interview, regarding the popularity of the TV show,
“I don’t feel it lost any buzz. If anything, more people are obsessing over it,”
Clearly, he is confident enough to say this and he should be, thanks to the fact that the TV series is a hit globally. But there were also factors that he mentioned that could tarnish the show’s popularity and quality if it were released earlier than its targeted date.
You probably already know this, but the TV hit show ‘Game of Thrones’ is wrapping up its final season in the next couple of weeks. Thus, HBO is a little cautious on choosing what shows to release following the massive show that is GOT.
It is really a big shoe to fill, considering that viewers would expect the same quality as GOT. Of course, not all viewers would, but there would be a lot of comparisons between these shows and they would no doubt get a lot of criticisms.
What to Expect with the Upcoming Season 3 of Westworld
There are a few notable surprises that are circling the internet at the moment involving Westworld’s 3rd season. One of them being Aaron Paul’s involvement on the show. It is said that the Emmy award winner (Breaking Bad)will be cast as a regular on the upcoming season. When asked about his role, there weren’t any definitive answers and stated the show wanted to keep it a secret for now. Something to look forward to in the future.
Joining Aaron Paul on this journey is a Primetime Emmy Award winner (Master of None, Thanksgiving Episode) writer-turned-performer, Lena Waithe. As expected, her roles were kept secret at the moment, but she did share some enthusiasm by posting on Instagram an image of the news of her joining the TV series with the caption “All I can say is… it’s lit.”
